Teachers and students across Spain will be striking this Thursday. The campaign group Public Education for All is calling for mass action on March 9th against seven years of education cuts with yet more in the pipeline. All those involved in the education sector, including parents will be taking part.
Thursday's strike is the high point of a week of protest, culminating in mass demonstrations all over the country, including in the capital Madrid. Other activities include taking part in International Women's day and outreach work with parents and communities to explain the reasons for the strike.
This is just the latest action in Spain against both cuts and the so-called LOMCE: a raft of corporate reform policies which teachers, parents and students say will restrict the curriculum to the needs of the state and business, crush wider learning and critical thinking and is tantamount to indoctrination. The law also increases the drive to privatisation.
