hondblog3.jpg  Honduran Trade Unionists Demonstrate against the Coup The teaching unions in Honduras have been leading the fight against the illegal coup which took place at the end of June (see previous posts). A leading human rights activist said: “For many decades, the teaching sector has been the backbone of the popular movement in the country. Their commitment to the defence of quality public education and human rights has been a strong voice against corruption, inequality and social exclusion.” Now two teachers have been killed - one shot through the head at a demonstration and the other stabbed to death as he left the funeral of the first. Meanwhile other teachers have been arrested or injured. There is an urgent need for solidarity from teacher unions all over the world.
