The above video shows the amazing courage of high school students in Chile, who occupied 28 schools at the end of last week, as part of their long struggle for free education. The schools were occupied because they were going to be used for elections. The students wished to demonstrate that they saw the elections as a sham, since the clear wish of people for a fair society and in particular free education was always ignored.

The young people were threatened with prison if they stayed, but refused to be moved. The head, the teachers and other school workers supported them and stayed with them, saying that in supporting them in their strugle they were also educating them. At the end of the video, the police are seen dragging the young people into police vans.

This is just the latest episode in the long struggle of the Chilean people and in particular the students against the neo-liberal policies, which started in Chile after the military coup in 1973, and have never been reversed.
