The Australian teachers union has given a platform to Professor Michael Apple after an invitation to speak by the state government had been rescinded Professor Apple had been invited to address principals in the Australian state of Victoria, when his invitation was rescinded by the government because of his stance against performance related pay for teachers. Now the Australian Education Union (AEU) has invited him to give the lecture, entitled: 'Understanding and challenging the attack on state education' at their headquarters in Melbourne. The government is determined to bring in performance related pay for teachers and has said that Professor Apple's presence would be difficult, given the 'current political agenda and backlash from schools against the department (of education).
