Public Sector unions Rally in Botswana Public sector unions in Botswana have extended their strike indefinitely until their demands are met Teachers have been joined by health service workers including doctors - who have maintained the strike even though the government has declared it illegal. Strikers have been gathering at the Gaberone Senior Secondary School which is a focal point for the strike.Meanwhile the government has been using intimidation to try to force workers  back to work. For example they have reportedly used soldiers and police personnel to replace striking workers in schools and hospitals, in violation of the industrial relations laws of the country. At rallies on Mayday, workers determined to continue the strike. Botswana is a rich country partly because of its wealth from diamonds and yet 47% of the population live on less than a dollar a day.
