brazil.jpg Teachers' Demonstration in Sao Paulo Teachers in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil have been on strike since March 8th and in a huge demonstration last Friday they were attacked by the police The teachers are demanding a 34.5% pay rise, a fair career structure and bonuses. Every Friday there have been demonstrations and last Friday thousands of teachers took to the streets. Although the demonstration started off peacefuly at around lunch time police attacked with pepper spray and after some reaction from the demonstrators they attacked in force with reports of teachers being hospitalised - such as one with a rubber bullet lodged in his lung.
