colblog.jpg  A nursery school being used as a military stronghold in Colombia Two teacher trade unionists were murdered in Putumayo on April first. This brings to 9 the number of teachers murdered in Colombia this year. Emerson Ivan Herrera Ruales and Luz Mariela Diaz Lopez - who was seven months pregnant were shot on their way to work. The Colombian Federation of Educators (FECODE) is demanding that the government investigate these crimes. The murder of trade unionists is a frequent catastrophe in Colombia. According to Justice for Colombia a British NGO 9 trade unionists were killed in the month of March alone. Education International has condemned the latest murders. Fred van Leeuwen its General Secretary said: 'Education International and its members around the world are speaking with one voice. This killing has got to stop: impunity for the murder of trade unionists cannot be allowed. Those who perpetrated these heinous crimes must be brought to justice.' Read more on www.ei-ie.org
