Teachers campaigning for 4% of GDP on Education last Year Education International has given its full support to teachers in the Dominican Republic struggling for pay justice The teachers organised an imaginative campaign last year to force the government to give 4% of GDP to education. Unfortunately the government has not given any thought to improving the lives of teachers with the new money. Teachers in the Republic earn a basic salary of $219 per month, whereas a basic shopping basket of goods costs £292. Teachers struck on March 5th and will hold a national rally on March 17th if negotiations are unsuccessful.
