'Transform schools - yes - but not without us!' Teachers all over France struck yesterday over increased workload The French President has introduced a reform which would mean teachers working a half day on Wednesday. Traditionally French teachers work a longer day than in other countries but elementary schools have a break midweek. Now the President is proposing to introduce an extra half day on Wednesday. Teachers say that the reform has not been properly thought through and that it would make their already tough job even harder since they already suffer from a high workload. Teachers say they were not properly consulted on the changes. The strike was very well supported by elementary teachers - teachers unions said 60% took part. There were also demonstrations in many parts of the country.
