francblog2.jpg  Teachers and students demonstrating against cuts last year French teachers and academic staff are due to strike on Thursday together with all the main unions The strike call is largely as a result of Sarkozy's policies in the wake of the recession which are causing unemployment to rise - particularly amongst the young - while protecting the leaders of big business. According to one poll the strike has got widespread support amongst the public with 70% being supportive. Even bank workers are joining the strike who do not usually take part in such actions. The strike comes in the wake of last autumn's strikes in which teachers, pupils and students had a particularly high profile - protesting against reforms which will see class sizes grow and thousands of teachers' posts disappearing.
