Protesters outside the Greek Parliament earlier this Week The leader of the Greek secondary school teachers union (OLME) is calling for a general strike to continue until the cuts imposed by the Troika are overthrown The teachers will be out on strike tomorrow as part of an ongoing general strike against today's agreement by the Greek government and opposition to cut the minimum wage by a further 22%, cut a further 15,000 public service jobs and attack pay and pensions. As a result of the continuing attacks on the Greek people by bond traders and their advocates in the European Union, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund,  one in three of the Greek population is living below the poverty line and public services including education are being decimated. Today's statement by Kotsifakis Themis, General Secretary of OLME is pasted below: ONGOING STRUGGLE TO OVERTHROW THE MEMORANDUM POLICY IN GREECE  Three-day worker and civil-servant mobilizations:
  •  OLME participates in the 24-hour public and private sector strike, on Friday 10th February (48 hour strike for the services operating on Saturday 11/02/2012).
  • Daily demonstrations across the country, on Friday 10/02/2012, Saturday 11/02/2012 (11:00 am at Syntagma Square)- and on Sunday 12/02/2012 (17:00 pm at Syntagma Square)
The EB of OLME calls out all Supreme Confederations and all Public and Private Trade Unions to continue our strikes taking place next week. Strikes must go on to overthrow this policy. The three political leaders, the Government and the Troika agreed on the measures included in the new Memorandum. Those measures constitute the “tombstone” of the Greek society. This government is not entitled to take those measures.  Our demand is to overthrow this policy and the Government serving it.
  •  WE MUST OVERTHROW THIS POLICY AND THE COVERNMENT IMPLEMENTING IT. WE MUST OVERTHROW ANY OTHER GOVERNMENT INTENDING TO IMPLEMENT THE SAME POLICY. THE TROIKA MUST LEAVE THE COUNTRY.
  • We must abolish the barbaric and slavishly implemented Government-EU-IMF memorandum, the mid-term programme and all resulting measures.
  • We say NO to the new loan agreement and the accompanying measures.
  • We must overthrow the neoliberal policies in Europe.
