Teachers and school students marched together on Monday to protest the austerity measures which are leaving schools understaffed and underfunded. The cuts mean that many schools are losing staff and that whole departments are being closed down.

The protest outside Athens University was organised by the school students, while the secondary school teachers union, OLME organised a three hour strike to coincide with it.

Teachers and school students have been in the forefront of the campaign to end the austerity which has been forced on the Greek government by the European Union and the IMF. Even though the present government was elected on the basis that it would resist austerity, the cuts go on relentlessly while bond holders and private corporations continue to milk the country dry.
