A leading activist in the Tehran branch of the Iranian Teachers' Trade Association (ITTA), Mohammad Habibi,  was arrested at his school on 3 March, in what news sources have termed a violent assault. He has been detained at Evin prison. The government has given no explanation for this arrest, which continues a crackdown on teacher unionists  in Iran.

Showing remarkable courage in the face of the government's violent persecution of union activists, teachers, co-workers and friends of the imprisoned teacher, Mohammad Habibi, staged a sit-in protest at the school where he worked.

Habibi’s  arrest has been condemned by the Education International, which has joined Labour Start in an international campaign to end the persecution of Iranian teachers. Also imprisoned are Mohammad Beheshti Langeroudi and Esmail Abdi, the leader of the ITTA Tehran branch.
