Hundreds of nursery teachers demonstrated in Jaipur in Rajastahn, India last Wednesday to demand that they be given teaching jobs. Thousands of students have taken the nursery teachers training course - often at huge expense to their families - only to discover that the government had changed the rules and they were no longer eligible for government teaching jobs. Thousands of students who are currently taking the course are affected and some have been protesting since 2007 when the new regulations came in. The government had promised to start a bridging course to enable the students to get the necessary qualification but this has not happened.
