kashmir.jpg  Government Employees' Demonstration in Jammu Teachers in Jammu and Kashmir are on the ninth day of a strike with other government employees All government institutions except emergency and labour wards in hospitals and all educational institutions in Kashmir and Jammu are closed as nearly half a million public employees strike for the payment of arrears and for an increase in retirement age from 58 to 60. The state government say they do not have the money to meet the public service workers' demands. Meanwhile thirty-seven leaders of public service unions have been arrested under the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) which resulted in the strikers demonstrating in large numbers and other union officials going underground. Teachers and other government employees are owed arrears going back to 2006
