Members of the union which covers state school teachers and cultural workers, went on strike from Monday this week 30,000 members of the union (SONK) started their open-ended strike on Monday after their leaders were unable to get any movement from their government on their pay claim. Teachers in Macedonia earn $385 a month. The government says that it cannot increase teachers' salaries until 2010 because of the world economic crisis.
