Protesting Education Cuts in New York Teachers in New York, USA are preparing to fight the planned lay-offs of 4,100 teachers and the loss of 2,000 more teaching jobs President of the New York Teachers' union UFT, Michael Mulgrew told union members this weekend that the next six weeks would see a battle against the mayor's plans, which would not only affect teachers' jobs but also children's education through increased class sizes. Mulgrew pointed out that  New York has a $3.2 billion budget surplus.  He said: "Mr. Mayor, it's not going to happen and enough is enough. ... We're not going to let him harm our children anymore." There will be a 'Wisconsin-style protest' to kick off the campaign this Thursday.
