Activists in the Philippines teachers organization, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers, have received death threats, and the General Secretary, Raymond Basilio, received a warning on his phone during a press conference about harassment that an order to kill him would be carried out.

The  union has learned of continuing unlawful profiling of its members carried out by the police in different regions of the nation, a violation of national and international law. The union, with support from the Education International and Labour Start, has asked for global assistance to protect its officers and members in their defense of teachers and public education.

You can help by sending a message to President Rodrigo Duterte demanding that the government protect Raymond and other union leaders, investigate the death threats, guarantee the privacy of union members, and stop any illegal collection of data about them.

Please support the campaign here and share this information widely with education and human rights activists.
