Teachers Demonstration in Saskatchewan Teachers in Saskatchewan, Canada struck yesterday in pursuit of their wage demand Teachers voted 95% in favour of strike action and on the day held study sessions as well as a two thousand strong demonstration in front of the regional parliament. Teachers in Saskatchewan earn consdierably less than their colleagues in other provinces in Western Canada. They are asking for a 12% pay rise while the government is offering 5.5% over three years. One teacher told the Globe & Mail : “I look at the housing prices alone and I can’t see a first- or a second-year teacher even purchasing a home here in Regina. I know if my son or daughter was a first-year teacher, I think they’d probably still be living at home with me.”
