haitianschoolcollapse-300x200.jpg  A Collapsed School in Haiti When the earthquake hit Haiti on Tuesday, schools were in session It is feared that many children and their teachers will have been kiled, many more are injured and others are trapped under the rubble. As a previous post on this site reported, schools are generally poorly built in Haiti - so much so that two collapsed within a week of each other in November 2008. A recent report by the Organisation of American States reported that there were no building standards in Haiti and that public buildings such as schools would be unable to withstand any environmental catastrophe. There is therefore very little hope that any schools will have survived the earthquake. Education International is co-ordinating efforts to bring solidarity to teachers and their families in Haiti in the aftermath of the quake.
