Teachers protesting in Slovakia last month Slovakian teachers are to strike at the end of November in pursuit of their pay claim The teachers want a 10% pay rise which will still leave their salaries very low compared to other teachers in Europe. At present they earn about 640 Euros a month. The teachers are also demanding that the education budget increases. They have timed their strike to start on  November 26th when the Slovakian parliament will be discussing the budget. At present there is no end date. This is the second strike in two months - teachers struck in September demanding more money for education and research. Although Slovakia is part of the European Union, 21% of its population live below the poverty line.
