Teachers in Sydney Australia are protesting this week against the privatisation of language teaching for immigrants to the country The language service which has been running since 1987 has been privatised on the quiet by the state government. The service has been taken over by multi-national education firm Navitas whose chief executive has a personal firtune of $275 million. The state says that the company will provide the service more cheaply but teachers say this will be done by paying teachers less and by not employing well qualified people for the job.
