food-aid.jpg  Children Queueing for Food Aid in Burundi Teachers in Burundi have been on strike since March in an effort to reclaim unpaid salaries The government of Burundi has reneged on an agreement from 2002 which was meant to improve teachers' conditions and salaries. In total $43 million is owed to the teachers for the last two years. Burundi is a land locked country in sub Saharan Africa where 68% of the population live below the poverty line and the average life expectancy is 58. Despite extreme pressure from the government, leaders of the teachers' unions have expressed determination to continue their fight for justice. Read more at
