Fukishima Teachers Union members were among the participants at a rally in Fukushima earlier this monthThe rally was called to commemorate  the second anniversary of the nuclear disaster in Fukushima on March 11th 2011, which left the area contaminated by radiation. Teachers and children are having to work in schools whose -4088">grounds are radioactive and the first reports of sickness as a result are beginning to emerge.

Meanwhile the neo-liberal government of Japan is proposing to open new nuclear plants. Speakers addressing the rally of over 1000 people in the town said they were fighting for the end of nuclear power for the sake of the children of Japan. One speaker had survived the nuclear bomb blast in Hiroshima at the end of the second world war. Japan is the only country in the world to have suffered the devastating effects of nuclear bombs and now it its having to live with the aftermath of yet another man made nuclear disaster.
