At the Protest in the Dominican Republic Thousands of teachers have walked more than 200 kilometres across the Domican Republic, calling for improvements in public education The teachers are demanding that the government spend 4% of its budget on education - which is the amount stipulated under the state's law - they are demanding pay rises and the reinstatement of free school meals for pupils. The teachers marched to the Ministry of Education in San Domingo which was guarded by three hundred police officers. The teachers called the minister of education incompetent and authoritarian.
